The Signal-man by Charles Dickens
A short story by Dickens, it is approximately 11 pages when printed out or downloaded as a PDF. An interesting story, with only the possibility of an otherworldly influence. This story has a way to showcase how good Dickens was at giving the reader just enough to get their imagination in full swing.
As a teacher I think this would be a great read for students who should be exposed to some of the great authors or generations past, but cannot read some of his longer works (ex. Great Expectations).
The story leads itself to a specific time-period, and might be hard to imagine in a word so consumed by modern-day technology. However, there are always the unexplained occurrences that this story so excellently highlights.
