You Weren’t Supposed to See That

You Weren’t Supposed to See That by Joshua M. Brown

This is not the typical investing book, there are no formulas to figure out which stocks to buy. No charts that show calculations of investment returns. Instead what makes this such an important read for those who want to increase their financial literacy and understanding of the stock market is a behind the scenes view from someone who works in the industry. Readers are invited to learn about what does and does not make headlines involving the stock market. Why some things impact the stock market and others do not have much if any impact. The book is an honest accounting of how those responsible for investing other people’s money work. Taken from his blog, key blog posts are put in this book with updates from the author about what has happened since more time has passed and reflections on what that has taught him. I cannot recommend this book enough, because it does teach those who want to learn about investing in the stock market some important lessons while not trying to get them to use a formula to “get rich quick” or find the diamond in the rough that will net a fortune in returns. This book’s lessons are possibly more important than a formula for picking what stocks to buy and when, it teaches overall lessons about the market. There are one or two strategies that I may start using, but it is not a formula it is here is an idea how to handle your panic during a correction. I hope the author writes the book he teases readers with at one point when he explains why he no longer writes his blog, because there should be people afraid of when he doesn’t have to worry about who he pisses off if he tells the truth and uses names.
