The Last Flight by Julie Clark
First a word of warning, while the reader will find out that Claire was abused by her husband there are no passages detailing the violence, it is more a memory that Claire has about how she was shoved and 2 ribs were broken or Claire hiding bruises she received. However, some readers may find this to much, and if so this is not a book for you to read. What was really interesting was Eva and Claire each going through different difficulties in their lives feeling as if no one was there to help them and feeling this way they decide to simply leave their lives and start over somewhere else as someone else. After everything starts to fall apart Claire and Eva switch tickets and flights in JFK and Claire heads to Berkley with Eva getting taking Claire’s ticket to on what ended up being a doomed flight that crashed into the ocean. Upon landing and seeing the news Claire realizes she has no identity very little money and no place to stay so she uses Eva’s house and identity while she tries to figure out what to do. Once inside Eva’s house Claire realizes the story Eva told her was a lie and slowly Claire uncovers what Eva was running from. Claire realizes she has to start her life over but how and with the help of a nice woman she gets a job off the books, but then a video of her is captured and her husband realizes where she is. Claire makes a decision to go public with her story and despite her uncertainty say that Eva died so that those looking for Eva will stop looking and Claire can get true freedom from her husband.
There will be no character list as doing so would either be deceptive or provide spoilers for many of the characters. This was a great book to read and leaves the reader guessing about who people really are and what their motives are throughout the entire book, and questioning if Eva really got on the flight.
