The Guncle Abroad by Steven Rowley
A fantastic follow up to The Guncle, the kids are older their father has fallen in love and is getting married and Masie and Grant are unsure how to feel about this, so in GUP fashion Uncle Patrick steps in to try and teach them about love languages and why love is important. As the three of them work their way through Europe, GUP tries to show Masie and Grant that love can be shown and received in different ways and that just because their father is marrying another woman does not mean their mother will be forgotten. However, Patrick is not as aware of his lessons as he seems because he is still dealing with ending his relationship with Emery who he still loves (and was staying at his place in New York) and trying to figure out the next stage in his professional career. While trying to help Masie through her emotions, Patrick must confront his insecurities about the kids having a Launt (which Patrick swears is not a thing) and having to possibly not be the one the kids turn to. Grant learns his love language, Masie tries everything she can to stop her father’s wedding, Patrick realizes he is meant to be with Emory, and a new cast of characters is introduced when Greg’s bride-to-be family is present at the wedding. Patrick does the most growing up in this book, not because he wants to and not because he learned the lessons he was teaching Masie and Grant, but because it is pushed upon him. A fantastic read, and if you can do the audio book while walking your dog, it is a fantastic summer read.
