Boy of Chaotic Making by Charlie N. Holmberg
The end of this trilogy brings happiness and sadness. Merritt, Hulda, Owein, Beth, and so many of the characters readers grew to love in these three books will no longer have their stories told. The reader can only imagine what will become of Owein’s arranged marriage and his potential future bride. With the Queen herself amazed at Owein’s powers she secures him a future bride (human) and a human body. Merritt goes to London with Owein as a dog and once again his life is at risk, or maybe it was Owein they were after. Hulda comes to London for L.I.K.E.R. and through the kindness of the family that Owein would marry into she is introduced to a professor who can help her learn to control her magic better. With Merritt learning more about his magic too, and Owein finding friends as a dog the attempts on Merritt’s life cause Merritt and Hulda to marry in a quick non-traditional ceremony in London while waiting until the Spring for the more traditional ceremony back on the island. Owein is turned into a teenage boy and asks the Queen for kindness on behalf of his arranged marriage, the Queen is impressed with Owein and lets him return to the states with a deal in place for his potential future bride. Of course the little details and the bigger plots are left out so the reader can enjoy the twists and turns of this story as they occur, some are sad, some are happy, and some are comical. The reader in me was not willing to let this story and this rag-tag family created in a magical house go and delayed reading the book and even writing this because of how much fun these characters have been to read about.
After this book readers will eagerly await the author’s next series.
