BRIDE

Bride by Ali Hazelwood

When a favorite rom-com author decides to add in the supernatural, it is either going to be so horrible the reader questions the need to finish the book or so wonderful it is hard for the reader to put the book down. Thankfully, this was a great book that was hard to break away from for things like work (the thing that pays for my dog to stay in the lifestyle she is accustomed to and me to buy more books), eat, and sleep. Misery is not the perky, rule following, traditional vampire that the Council wants her to be. Maybe it had something to do with being voluntarily given to the humans as a hostage when she was a kid and being told she is being married off to a werewolf as an adult in an effort to create peace between the species. Lowe Moreland, the Alpha of the werewolves, rules with authority and justice while keeping his half-sister’s secret and protecting those he loves. Agreeing to marry Misery and bring her into his house in an effort to create peace with the Vampires seemed like a good idea at the time. Then Misery and Lowe actually start to like each other, but their secrets keep them from fulling being together until it all blows up thanks to a kidnapping, an attempted assassination, Misery’s father trying to start a war, Misery’s twin brother either trying to overthrow his father or help him kill Misery and Lowe (not giving that answer away here). Misery’s best friend, a human who was kept with her while Misery was held hostage by the humans, is kidnapped a few weeks before Misery finds out she is to be married. Misery thinks Lowe is involved in the kidnapping, but what she really learns is the secret Lowe has been hiding and that her human best friend is part werewolf. Watching Misery start to care about Lowe’s younger sister and like his pack is really rather charming. Not the typical book you would think of from this rom-com author and not the normal supernatural books either, yet this book is such a magical ride of fun and adventure, with love thrown in that the reader will have a hard time putting this book down.
