The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanna Randall
This review has been held and published several months after the book was read. This book really would be best read when the Autumn starts, not only because the book happens in this season, but the emanates the smells of fall. The best part of the book are several recipes at the end of each chapter, and so it is strongly recommended that this is bought as a novel and not an audiobook.
Sadie Revelare has protected herself from heartbreak so much that she isn’t living her life to the fullest. However, when her Gigi dies Sadie must sacrifice everything to help her twin (Seth). Add to this heartbreak the return of a long lost love (Jake), her best friend (Raquel) dating her twin, an eccentric town, and family members who have not been seen in years showing up and you have the perfect situation for everything to go haywire while also going exactly right. The kind of magic Sadie has is infused into her cooking and her garden. While not exactly a secret the magic is not flashed around either. Jake is a sticky situation as he has a secret he has to tell Sadie, but Sadie is able to figure out what is really going on there, faster than she was able to realize her best friend and brother were dating.
There is no Character List, because the magic everyone has is really best left discovered by the reader, and there should not be a spoiler, other than of course their mother returns and helps them but only to leave right away (thankfully the aunts and uncles will help raise her youngest child instead of Sadie being responsible).
