The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
These two have a masterful skill of creating a love story that makes the reader laugh out loud while rooting for the two main characters to fall in love and get their happily ever after. Olive Torres, is an identical twin to Amy who is marrying Dane. Amy loves contests and gets her almost dream wedding for under $1000, including an all you can eat seafood buffet. Olive is allergic to seafood and Dane’s brother, Ethan, does not like buffets so they are the only two that do not eat the seafood. Sadly, there was a toxin in the fish and everyone except Ethan and Olive, who are not friendly with each other, are the only 2 of the entire wedding party and guests who did not get sick. With a non-refundable honeymoon in Maui just sitting there Olive and Ethan decide to tolerate each other for a week of pretending to be newlyweds and enjoy their siblings’ honeymoon. While there, of course, they realize they do like each other and it was a series of misunderstandings when they first met that made Olive think Ethan disliked her. Olive also realizes that Dane has been cheating on her twin, but she agrees to not say anything to her sister to keep her new relationship with Ethan. When Dane hits on Olive once they are back home, Olive tells Ethan and Amy with neither believing her. Olive is changing her life, and working for her cousin David as a waitress in one of his finest restaurants while she figures out what she wants out of her life. Two weeks after being told by Olive that her new husband had been cheating on her while they were together before they were married and that he hit on Olive, Amy realizes her sister was right. Amy apologizes to Olive and invites her over to see what will happen when she confronts Dane. As the women he has been cheating with, and Ethan, show up Amy kicks Dane out and tells Ethan he owes Olive an apology because he was telling the truth about his brother.
Of course Olive and Ethan get back together and if you listen to the audio Novella The Honeymoon Crashers you get to hear about their wedding and Amy finding love with a friend of Ethan’s. I highly recommend both books because the scene of everyone getting sick at Amy’s wedding reception is not as gross as you might fear and is paid off with the scenes of Olive and Ethan pretending to be lovey dovey at a dinner with Olive’s new boss and on the boat with Ethan’s ex nearby. Plus, Amy embarrassing Dane with how she catches him cheating is paid off nicely with her scenes with Brody tasting cake, hiring a DJ, and falling in love.
