A Dish Best Served Hot by Natalie Cana
After the first book in this series (A Proposal They Can’t Refuse) I was hooked and so happy to read more about this family and match making Abuelo. After finding Kamilah her perfect match, and there is a real engagement party for Kamilah and Liam in this book, Abeulo is now looking to help his grandson Saint find his perfect match. Saint was in love with Lola in high school, they dated and they broke up, he married another to fulfill his duty but always thought of Lola. Now Saint is back in Humboldt Park with is daughter Rosie and with the help of his family is raising his daughter on his own. Rosie will not speak in school, and after her preschool teacher leaves, Lola becomes her teacher and Saint and Rosie are reunited. Well, technically they were reunited a day before when their grandfathers were being yelled at in their nursing home for a prank war that has gone to far. Saint and Lola recognize those feelings they had for each other, are still there but so are some of the problems they never addressed. Saint is having anxiety attacks and trying to control everything so nothing bad happens to those he loves. Lola is so used to being on her own she does not take in account what might happens to others or how her actions will impact those she cares about. After Lola is almost kidnapped while she is with Rosie, and Leo gets shot saving them, Lola and Saint argue and break up. Rosie is impacted from the event and goes from not speaking at school to barely speaking at all. Thankfully, there is a happy reunion and Saint and Lola start working to be better partners for each other and Rosie tells Abeulo the secret about Leo and why she thinks he is so mean now (because he hasn’t seen Sofi in so long). This sets up the third book, and hopefully not the last, in the Vega Family series.
