The Half Moon

The Half Moon by Mary Beth Keane

This review was delayed to when the weather might match the winter storm that is the back drop for the story. While this book came out right before summer it was not the light summer beach read that one might have anticipated. The story revolves around Mal and Jess who separated 17 weeks ago with the winter storm that knocks out power across town providing the time to explain why the two separated and what their future holds. This book was depressing to read at time and not a break from reality, which is why it might be hard to recommend this book. When a reader wants to escape reality, this book would not do it. It was slightly hard to root for any character as there was no real character development for any character. In fact, Malcolm pointed out how he did not grow when he relates a story about how lucky he has been and never needed to make a decision or have a plan because he would get rescued just like he did when he was a kid (and sure enough he did as an adult which showed just how much he did not grow from the situation). Not a horrible book, but not one I would recommend especially if someone was sad or feeling down.
