The Guest List

The Guest List by Lucy Foley

It is not a bad read, but at points it feels too drawn out and as if the author is being paid by how long the story is instead of creating suspense. The Guest List is told through multiple points of view in a scattered timeline, which is normally fine however here it cuts to a different point of view at a critical point in the story too often. After one such switch to a different character and different timeline, it became hard to care about who was missing from the wedding and might have been killed. The author does a nice job of letting the reader have enough clues to figure out who people are or how they are connected as the story moves along. It is not a bad read, it is not a great read, it is a book that would be recommended to those who like suspense/mystery novels with the caveat that at times it feels too drawn out instead of suspenseful. The ending is worth the read and putting up with the feeling of this is too drawn out. The reader will be happy with who was murdered and probably happy with who did the killing too. There will be no character list, as is typical with other books, to help make sure that unintentional spoilers are not given.
